From The Ground Up
About This Spot
From The Ground Up unfolds like a quietly cherished corner in the heart of Wisconsin Rapids, where the rhythm slows just enough for meaningful moments to settle in. This coffee shop invites you in with an unhurried welcome—soft light filters through windows dressed in whimsical seasonal touches, casting gentle shadows over eclectic décor that feels both curated and lived-in.
Stepping inside, you sense a space crafted for lingering rather than rushing. Whether you find a nook to dive into your work or settle in for a casual chat with a friend, the atmosphere breathes warmth and calm. The hum of friendly conversation mixes with the comforting aroma of freshly ground coffee beans—something rich and earthy, coaxing you to slow down and savor. Staff move thoughtfully, their easygoing nature reflecting a genuine care for each visitor’s experience.
Here, the menu feels like a quiet companion to the day’s unfolding story. The cheese and tomato croissant roll, golden and flaky, pairs perfectly with any choice from their thoughtfully brewed coffee, cocoa, or tea, offering little moments of joy between sips and words. There’s a sense that whatever you choose, it’s made with an understanding of small pleasures and a commitment to real connection.
From the well-paced service to the inviting yet unpretentious seating areas, every detail encourages you to take your time. The shop’s layout, with its two entrances and open spaces, adds a certain ease to visits—parking is never a concern, and the welcoming presence of the staff often turns one-time guests into regulars. While it might not rush you along, the friendliness and gentle attentiveness make it a place you’ll want to return to, whether for a quick break or an afternoon spent with a favorite card game or book.
In a town filled with the everyday, From The Ground Up manages to feel like an essential pause—an honest, lived-in haven where coffee is more than just a drink, but a shared moment grounded in thoughtful simplicity.

Cozy and not overcrowded. Great place to do some work when in between appointments. I've eaten twice here and have enjoyed thoroughly!

Excellent place to meet your friends for a cup of coffee. The batista was friendly, and very good, and the windows were decorated for the holiday with antique mechanical elves.

Since coming back to central WI, my partner and I had our first date in a while at the Coffee House. We came at 2:50pm, had our drinks and played our favorite card game before leaving. The owner let us stay til 4 without letting us know we’ve overstayed our time. I only realized this when we came back a second time that their closing time was at 3pm. Friendly service, wonderful display of arts, variety of books and games to choose from while staying there. And I love getting coffee served in mugs! The atmosphere is very cozy and homey!

Nice coffee shop. With a nice selection of coffee drinks, soups, sandwiches, scones, biscotti, brownies and other treats to pick from . Purchased bag of coffee from Costa Rica fresh ground on site. Nice sitting areas to enjoy your cup of coffee. Friendly staff. Parking. Two entrances. Does not take cards!

Nice coffee shop, great atmosphere, and eclectic decorations. The food was fantastic, we had three different pastries, and they were excellent. Service was a bit slow, as some of the drinks they offer take time to make. At the time we were there, there was only a single person at the counter making the drinks. This by no means will stop me from coming back, as everything else overall was fantastic. Yes, that's a real VW Van on the top for decoration.

We always stop here when attending the Grand Affair. It is a great place for coffee with decent prices. Food looks great although we have never eaten there. The decorations bring back loads of fond memories. Never had a bad experience.

Wonderful place, with warm cheerful folks. Great coffee, and fun sense of humor. Loved the 69 VW bus they have inside. The atmosphere was very inviting, and I wish I could have stayed longer. A perfect spot to relax, have a cup or two of coffee, a snack, and a conversation.

This coffee shop has to be one of neatest ones I've ever been to! It's gorgeous on the inside and the coffee is delicious!
